Call Before You Dig

Planning a project that requires digging?
Call 811 before you dig to have underground utility lines located and marked. This free service helps prevent damage to utility infrastructure and keeps everyone safe.

Gas Department

Gas Leak Safety

Natural gas leaks can cause fires or explosions. Watch for these warning signs:

  • Smell of rotten eggs
  • Blowing dirt or dust
  • Dead or discolored vegetation in an otherwise healthy area
  • Bubbles forming in standing water

If You Suspect a Gas Leak

  1. Leave the area immediately.
  2. Do not use telephones, light switches, appliances, or any electrical devices.
  3. Call the Hohenwald Gas Department at (931) 796-2231 or dial 911.
Water Department

Reporting Water Leaks

To report:
  • A leak on the city's side of the meter, or
  • A leak on your property when you are unable to turn off the meter,
Call (931) 796-2231 during regular business hours.

Office Hours:
Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM

After-hours calls will be routed to dispatch for assistance.

Water Service Reconnection

If your water service has been disconnected due to non-payment, you must contact our office to make payment arrangements before service can be restored.

Reconnect Fee: $30.00

Sewer Department

Sewer Service Assistance

If you are experiencing sewer problems, contact our office at (931) 796-2231 during regular business hours to submit a work order for a sewer cleanout.

Office Hours:
Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM

After-hours calls will be routed to dispatch.

Sewer Cleanout Fees
  • City-side sewer issues: No charge
  • Customer-side sewer issues: Minimum $100 cleanout fee
  • After-hours callout: Minimum $200 fee
Fees apply when city crews are requested to clear a blockage located on the customer's side of the sewer system.
